Dr. Chaleila is an Assistant Professor and Head of the English Department at Al- Qasemi College of Education in Israel. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English and German language and literature from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 2014, she obtained a Ph.D. degree in English and American literature from KU Leuven in Belgium and in 2015, a Ph.D. in English from the University of Haifa in Israel. Chaleila was enrolled in a comparative literature program at Harvard University, Boston, MA in 2013, and in a postdoctoral program at KU Leuven, Belgium in 2016. Chaleila specializes in literature and her teaching fields include Anglo-American literature and poetry, multi-ethnic literature, English teaching, and academic writing. Her research spans teaching approaches, critical theory, literary theory, early and modern literatures, poetic justice and law, American history, ethnic identity, Darwinism, and Marxism. Chaleila has published a numerous of refereed articles and her monograph Racism and Xenophobia in Early Twentieth-Century American Fiction: When a House is Not a Home, Routledge, 2021, is to be followed by a new book entitled The Enemy Image of the Jew in World Literature.
