The Faculty of Exact Sciences at Al-Qasemi Academy College held the second international online conference on “Applied Research and Science Education” in partnership with the Galilee Society: The Arab National Society for Health Research and Service and the Triangle Research and Development Center, Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
The conference aimed to open communication channels and networking between research and higher academic institutions and future researchers in the fields of applied sciences, science education and learning.
The conference was attended by more than 450 participants, including representatives from Ministry of Education, schools, researchers and lecturers from research and higher education institutions, as well as university students from Al-Qasemi Academy College, Beit Berl College, Ben-Gurion University, Haifa University, The Academic Arab College for Education, and the Technion.
Dr. Abeed Wattad - Dean of Exact Sciences Faculty, Prof. Anwar Rayan - President of the College and Dr. Qutaiba Igbariya - Academic Dean welcomed the participants, and gave introduction speeches.
The keynote lecture was given by Prof. Ashraf Brik - Faculty of Chemistry in the Technion Institute of Technology entitled: “The Literary Experience of the Chemist”.
The lecturers participated in the conference also dealt with a number of contemporary and important scientific topics, such as“ harmful insects as a factor threatening global food security: risks and methods of control ”- Prof. Dr. Murad Ghanem – researcher in the Department of Entomology, Volcani Institute.
Dr. Esther Majadla - Researcher in Solar Energy, Triangle Research and Development Center talked about the agricultural greenhouse and its integration with the energy of organic photovoltaic cells on the roofs to provide food and electrical security.
Prof. Hasan Aziza- Researcher, the Galilee Society: The Arab National Society for Health Research and Service, presented about the production of lactic acid, a degradable plastic from agricultural waste that is a promising intermediate material for its production.
Dr. Irir Sadeh - Biology inspector, Ministry of Education, presented about computerized matriculation exams in Biology during Corona pandemic, described as an interesting experience by teachers and students.
Dr. Sari Assli - Researcher, the Galilee Society: The Arab National Society for Health Research and Service presented about the development of distance supervision skills appropriate for carrying out school research activities in close environments (e.g. schools-limited gatherings, home etc..).
Dr. Abeer Wattad - Dean of Exact Sciences, Al-Qasemi Academy College, gave a lecture on students’ motivation to learn Nanotechnology in MOOCs.
Dr. Riam Abu Much - Head of Chemistry Department, the Arab Academic College of Education, Haifa, gave a lecture on several strategies of teaching Nanotechnology.
