On Tuesday, June 08,2021, the Office of International Academic Relations at Al-Qasemi Academic College organized a lecture on the Finnish teacher education system via Zoom.
The lecture was presented by Prof. Hannel Niemi - Professor and Research Director at the University of Helsinki, Finland, and the UNESCO Chair on Educational Ecosystems for Equity and Quality of Learning. Prof. Niemi has a long experience in developing high quality teacher education in Finland and globally.
In her lecture, Prof. Nieme talked about the basic elements of the Finnish educational system, as well as the secrets of success in this system which include high quality teacher education system. She explained about the teacher education system and its basic principles, including a research-based approach as a main guideline, the social and moral code of the teaching profession and the integration of theory and practice.
At the end of the lecture, the staff at Al-Qasemi Academic college raised questions and discussions about the characteristics of teacher education system in Finland and why it is considered one of the most successful systems in the world.
